|Ascot United seek to preserve their five-point lead at the top of the table this weekend when they visit Guildford City on Saturday (3pm) (Spectrum Football Ground, Parkway, GU1 1UP).
The Yellamen will have a point to prove against a side that shocked them 3-0 in October’s reverse fixture – Ascot’s ‘homecoming’ – on a night when they also lost their unbeaten league record.
Of some re-assurance to Ascot this time around is the fact that 8 of their 11 league defeats have come at their Spectrum home, and they are the league’s lowest goalscorers – scoring 21 in 22 matches – with Daniel Stewart (9) and Samuel Ogunseye (6) the only players to have scored more than one!
But 4 wins in their last 5 league outings has certainly boosted their predicament, now comfortably in 14th place, so it won’t be easy for the Yellamen on a day when Frimley play Balham, Sutton play Spelthorne and Knaphill look to have it easiest of all at Hanworth Villa.
