The FA has decided to reduce the number of step 5 leagues in England and Wales from 14 to 12. Ascot United and other local sides play at step 5 so the proposals announced last week will directly impact on our first team from the beginning of the 2013-14 season. Clubs such as Camberley Town, Ash United, Sandhurst Town, Windsor, Egham Town, Cove, Alton, Holmer Green and Farnham Town could all join Bracknell Town, Binfield, Wokingham and Emmbrook, Reading Town and Holyport to increase the number of local derbies that we play and reduce our travel times. However a lot can happen between now and then and some of the clubs above could be relegated or promoted out of step 5 before the change comes into effect. Interesting though!
