|Dunstable Town dealt a mortal blow to Ascot United Development Side’s chances of lifting the Suburban League Central Division title on Thursday evening.
Needing to avoid defeat to keep the destiny of the title in their own hands, Ben Fuller gave Ascot the lead, before Dunstable struck back to win 2-1 at Creasey Park.
The result means that Tommy Wilkinson’s side remain three points behind leaders Tring Athletic with a game in hand, although Tring’s vastly superior goal difference is virtually insurmountable.
If Tring win their final league game at home versus Fleet Spurs on Saturday then they are pretty much guaranteed to be crowned champions, unless Ascot win by improbable cricket scores at both Leverstock Green on the same day and then at Harefield next Thursday.
Ascot will therefore hope that Fleet can do them a favour at Tring tomorrow, which would put the destiny of the title back in their hands.
However, the Yellamen have already guaranteed 2nd place in the 11-team league, which is a huge achievement.
1. Tring P 19 / PTS 45 / GD +51
2. Ascot P 18 / PTS 42 / GD +22
