|The Emirates FA Cup journey begins at the Racecourse when near-neighbours Camberley Town visit in one of the extra preliminary round’s three opening matches on Friday (7.45pm).
With horse racing at the Racecourse on Saturday, the Yellamen were thankful to the Krooner Park outfit for agreeing to an early staging, and the fixture also allows a number of ground-hoppers to begin their weekend tour in Berkshire.
Camberley haven’t made the best of starts to their Combined Counties League programme having lost their opening two matches - but £2,250 would be a welcome boost for either side – the prize fund on offer for winning on Friday. And, the prospect of a home tie with the winners of the Horndean v Godalming Town match gives an added incentive.
The two sides met in pre-season when Ascot won 3-2, although the most meaningful recent bragging rights lie in Camberley’s favour following a resounding 4-1 replay win over Ascot in the 2015-16 FA Vase run. That run saw the Surrey side reach the quarter final, only to be beaten by Hereford 3-2 in the final minute of extra time.
Chris Ellis, now a Yellamen, featured for Camberley that season, and he will be relishing the opportunity play against his former side.
A full match report will appear here after the game, and remember that bar and catering is open and that the players will be looking for your opportunity to sponsor them this season for just £30. Listen out for more details before the game or email email@example.com.
